LT. Governor Releases First Round of Interim Charges

During the interim period between legislative sessions, the Lieutenant Governor assigns “interim charges” directing Texas Senate committees to study specific policy issues, hold hearings, gather public and expert input, and develop recommendations for potential legislation. Committees are required to report their findings and proposed legislative solutions by a set deadline, which in this case is February 20, ahead of the start of the 90th Texas Legislature. This first round reflects only a portion of the full interim agenda, with additional charges expected to be released later this spring. The initial charges emphasize property tax relief, government oversight and fraud prevention, infrastructure and grid security, limiting foreign influence, and cultural and legal issues.

Committees with interim charges issued so far:

  • State Affairs
  • Finance
  • Business & Commerce
  • Health & Human Services
  • Education

Strategic Legislative Planning Session Recap

Physicians from across specialties gathered on Saturday, February 7, at the Texas Medical Association to discuss key challenges facing medicine and to begin identifying priorities for the 2027 Texas legislative session. Topics ranged from public health and scope of practice to workforce and access issues. The meeting provided an opportunity for physicians to engage with one another, share perspectives, and begin developing potential policy solutions. Physicians will reconvene in the fall to further refine priorities and finalize a legislative agenda for the 2027 session.
