MSC Update

June 2024

TCEP MSC members,

I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new Chair of the Texas College of Emergency Physicians-Medical Student Committee (TCEP-MSC). This role is an immense honor and a responsibility that I embrace with great enthusiasm. Like many, my journey into emergency medicine was driven by the fast-paced, dynamic environment of the emergency department and a desire to practice care for all in my community. Now, in my 4th year of medical school and bound for emergency medicine, I am excited to share this passion and love for the specialty as Chair.

It's important to highlight the uniqueness of TCEP-MSC nationwide. We are privileged to have access to an abundant number of Emergency Medicine Residencies in the state. Moreover, our leaders within TCEP are nationally recognized and spearhead many advocacy initiatives across the country. I am particularly proud that our MSC comprises hundreds of students across all 16 Texas Medical Schools, showcasing that everything truly is bigger in Texas. As a previous member, I have personally benefited from the extensive resources, networking opportunities, and events organized by TCEP-MSC.

This year, the student Officers are eager to build upon the successes of TCEP-MSC that enhance our student Emergency Medicine experience across Texas. We will prioritize several ongoing initiatives, including The Meet the Residency Series, 4th Annual Fall Colloquium, and 51st TCEP Connect. Additionally, we have exciting plans forthcoming such as a Clerkship guide by Texas students for Texas students, Texas residency program infographics, updating our student webpage with more up-to-date resources, and strengthening our partnerships with SIGs.

I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and am eager to work with such a talented group of MSC Officers across the state. Please feel free to reach out to the MSC officers or myself at [email protected].

We look forward to serving y’all,

Kevin Chao
TCEP-MSC, Chair
