Immediate Past President's MessageApril 2025![]() It has been a true privilege to serve as your president over the past year. Working with such a great team of physician leaders who volunteer their time to improve the lives of our patients, our colleagues and our specialty is truly motivating. I had no idea back in 2015 that my choice to become a TCEP Leadership and Advocacy Fellow (TLAF) would lead me to this point and have such a positive effect on my career. I am thankful for the opportunity and to all those who have mentored me along the way. On behalf of the TCEP Board of Directors, I want to thank our outgoing directors Drs. Sandra Williams, Theresa Tran, Brook Danboise, and Cassidy Lane for their service to the college. We truly appreciate all you have done to serve our patients, our members and the greater EM community. I also want to welcome our newest board member Dr. Robert Rosillo, young physician director Dr. Justin Hacnik, resident director Dr. Ryan Johnson, and medical student representative Ms. Catherine Pivalizza. We’re all looking forward to working with you over the next year and beyond. I especially want to thank our executive director, Jill Sutton, who does an absolutely amazing job running our college. We are truly fortunate to have her piloting the ship, providing the solid foundation and continuity required to keep TCEP strong, growing and adaptable for the future. In our profession it can be difficult to keep a positive outlook and find joy in our work. We face many challenges, whether it be too many boarders, a multitude of metrics staring us down, or an electronic health record that takes a piece of your soul away with every additional click and alert screen; our hurdles are many. I suspect those of you reading this article have found the value in reaching out beyond your home emergency department to organized EM. I’m preaching to the choir when I say TCEP provides the opportunity to come together in person and work to improve our practice environment while developing a larger support network across the state and the country. It’s with these new personal connections that we expand our individual bedside practice to healing our specialty and in the process become more thoughtful and resilient physicians who can more often find that bit of joy in caring for our patients. Over the next year I encourage you to reach out to a colleague and show them how participating in organized emergency medicine to help solve our larger challenges can actually be rejuvenating and make them a better bedside clinician. Thank you all for an amazing year. I look forward to seeing my EM family at our next meetings in the year to come. Be well and remember that what you do matters! Best regards, Doug |
