April 2025

Immediate Past President's Message

It has been a true privilege to serve as your president over the past year. Working with such a great team of physician leaders who volunteer their time to improve the lives of our patients, our colleagues and our specialty is truly motivating. I had no idea back in 2015 that my choice to become a TCEP Leadership and Advocacy Fellow (TLAF) would lead me to this point and have such a positive effect on my career. I am thankful for the opportunity and to all those who have mentored me along the way.

On behalf of the TCEP Board of Directors, I want to thank our outgoing directors Drs. Sandra Williams, Theresa Tran, Brook Danboise, and Cassidy Lane for their service to the college. We truly appreciate all you have done to serve our patients, our members and the greater EM community. READ MORE

President's Message

Colleagues and friends,
I am excited to work for you this year! As we work through the latter parts of the legislative session, we are very busy watching bills and intervening when advisable to protect our patients and our practice. While our group of senior leaders is actively communicating to plan, respond and coordinate, we are doing so on behalf of all Emergency Medicine practices in Texas. We continue to want to hear from our members, particularly about any thoughts, concerns or solutions you may see so we can do the most accurate work representing your interests. READ MORE

Legislative Update

With a little less than 40 days remaining in the regular session, the Legislature is beginning to pick up the pace. Committees are moving bills out and setting them for floor debate. At this point in the last session, the Texas House had already passed more than 100 bills; this year, that number is less than 100. The resulting backlog is likely to pose challenges for legislation that has not yet received a committee hearing.

TCEP held its Hill Day at the Capitol on Tuesday, April 15. More than 40 emergency physicians, residents/fellows and medical students participated, advocating for issues critical to emergency medicine and the broader House of Medicine.
